Flora & Fauna of Florida
Sunday being the traditional day of rest, we left off fat-farming and drove to “Crew” a wilderness marsh area east of Estero.

Nearly two days of rain has given the flora a gloss it normally doesn't get in this, the Florida dry season. My favs, the ferns, were thriving, and there seemed an endless variety of them. These had taken up residence in the bark of a fallen tree.

Florida flora has redefined the term “opportunistic.”  This very symmetrical flower was fixing to bloom in a tree crevasse, a glorious red. We will try to return next weekend to see if it does.

We also saw this charming, innocuous character:

The few people we encountered had dogs and there are certainly rattlesnakes and water moccasins in residence.  Fortunately, these creatures have slightly less love for us than we for them, so we saw none. One little black fellow, thin as a whip, did make an appearance but quickly slithered off.
